2 of 5 workflows moved, no downtime

[ CONTEXT ]

Context.

A freight forwarding company in the UK has used a Delphi desktop order system for about twenty years. One person is left who can change it.

[ CONSTRAINTS ]

Constraints.

[ WHAT WE BUILT ]

What we built.

A web application in Next.js, Node.js and PostgreSQL that takes over one workflow at a time. Each new workflow runs alongside the old one for a month before the old screen is switched off.

Five workflows move one at a time from the Delphi desktop system to the new web application; quoting and bookings have moved, invoicing is next, and each runs alongside the old screen for a month. DELPHI DESKTOPNEW WEB APP Quoting — moved Bookings — moved Invoicing — next Customs documents Reporting Quoting Bookings 1 MONTH SIDE BY SIDE

[ OUTCOME ]

Outcome.

So far 2 of 5 workflows have moved (quoting, then bookings), with zero hours of downtime. Invoicing is next.

Remaining: invoicing, customs documents, reporting.

Nothing was switched off until its replacement had run alongside it for a month.
